POWERBOARD

INCREASE YOUR POWER OUTPUT

We are currently using Powerboard at Gwynt y Môr, our largest offshore wind farm, to help increase our power output and improve operational efficiency.

Renewable energy needs to get more competitive

The renewable energy industry needs to increase production and reduce costs to be more competitive with traditional energy sources like coal and natural gas.

Renewable energy companies can improve competitiveness by combining their operational data with external market and geospatial data to perform advanced analytics.

Enterprises have had limited success with data integration because it’s difficult to combine the different data sources and present the merged data to users and analysts.

Combine real-time operational and industrial data with a growing programmatic catalog of open and commercial data from external data providers into a single cloud-based solution.

A visually rich, interactive analysis tool that permits detailed optimization of a wind farm that replaces rooms full of distracting monitors that are not integrated at a software level.

Data visualization experience to streamline
operations and maintenance

Cloud-based, real-time views for all stakeholders: operators, managers, analysts

Integrate data from all sources:
turbines, plant operations, maintenance
fleets, environmental, and geospatial

Include open and commercial
data from third parties

Multi-site monitoring, reporting,
data exchange, and collaboration

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Q: How does Powerboard increase power output?

A: By integrating geospatial data with operational, maintenance, and planning systems, renewable energy companies can increase output by optimizing the whole system to work efficiently. For example, scheduling extra maintenance just before high wind days and providing energy traders with advanced analytics to predict future prices. These are just two examples of how the combination of external geospatial data and internal operations data can benefit renewable energy companies.

Q: Who is using Powerboard today?

A: German energy giant RWE is currently using Powerboard at Gwynt y Môr, their largest offshore wind farm, to help increase power output and improve operational efficiency. RWE International SE, is planning to use Powerboard at a number of their other wind farms in the near future. Other businesses like solar farm operators, electric grids and ports are also undergoing initial trials with Powerboard.

Q: What data types does Planet OS Powerboard support?

A: Planet OS Powerboard supports all geospatial data types, both rasters and time-series. Including, but not limited to .xls, .csv, .shp, .hdf, .nc, .tar, .tif and .zip. If a customer needs additional data types, Planet OS can easily add other types as needed.

Q: What kind of data science systems does Planet OS integrate with?

A: Planet OS supports a variety of data science systems today, for example Spark and Flink. Data is available both via RESTful API and CSV formats.

Q: Does Powerboard support Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) standard?

A: Powerboard OGC support is scheduled for release in calendar Q4 2016, but we are looking for early adopter customers to beta test now. We are also investigating matlab support, and are gather customer requirements at the moment.

Q: How is Powerboard different from Asset Performance Management (APM) systems?

A: Powerboard uses APM data streams as an input that gets combined with other data and presented as an aggregated data dashboard that provides data intelligence.

Q: What external data is available on Planet OS today?

A: Planet OS provides an API-driven data catalog of over 2,100 environmental, weather, coastal, and other geospatial parameters.

Q: Where can I find a complete list of the 2,100+ parameters supported by the Planet OS API?

A: You can find a complete list of supported parameters at data.planetos.com

Q: What latency does Powerboard support?

A: As a standard offering, Powerboard provides near real time data streaming with a few seconds of latency or less to large scale geospatial computer models.

Q: How do I get started with Powerboard?

A: Planet OS usually starts with a proof of concept (POC) and associated value analysis for the project so customers and Planet OS can understand the value that can be delivered. This phase typically takes a few months to complete.

Q: What is the pricing model if the POC is successful?

A: Planet OS follows a benefits gain-share model so Planet OS is successful only if the customer is successful. After the POC, there is usually a implementation in production and a multi-year contract based on mutual success.

Q: How does Planet OS develop a successful POC?

A: Planet OS works closely with the renewable energy operator to jointly define the current and desired workflow based on site visits, system integration meetings, and user interface iterations.

Q: Does Planet OS work with system integrators and other service provider partners?

A: Yes, Planet OS will work with any partners to bring the final solution to the renewable energy customer. System integrators and other service providers in the renewable energy ecosystem are all routes to market for Planet OS core services at data.planetos.com. We see our primary value in the market is to provide open and commercial geospatial data to a wide variety of partners serving renewable energy customers so they can combine it with their services and help renewable energy get more competitive.
